"I made it by hand...solo"
This quote, for those of you not quite geeky enough, is from a little special that aired only once called the
Star Wars Holiday Special. It was two hours long, aired on a friday night in December of...197-something, I don't know and George Lucas doesn't officially acknowledge it exists. If you dare click on the above link you can watch the entire thing from beginning to end. The whole two hours. And yes, it really is as bad as the rumors would imply. It wasn't just "bad" or "horrible" or "the worst thing to air on TV in the history of TV" it was...well like I said worst episode ever. Although that made it by hand solo line did make me bust up laughing when I first heard it.
And actually there's an animated short half way through featuring the first appearance of Boba Fet that believe it or not is actually not that bad. In fact I thought the Boba Fet character was remarkably consistent with the rest of the universe.
The art style of the animated short was kind of weird. C-3P0 had a neck for instance and few other things. Not that I've a little movie called heavy metal but it was almost reminiscent of that. Or since the star wars special pre-dated heavy metal that maybe it's the other way around. Ok I'll move on.
Tomorrow I actually have quite possibly a phone interview. I say possibly because things don't always work out quite the you'd like and maybe something will happen and I won't have an interview. But as of right now I am in fact scheduled for an interview.
The job description I received seemed to be totally and completely lack in detail. Lets see: under stand basic "computer infrastructure"? What exactly does that mean? Just how the hardware works? How the registers of the x86 architecture work? What?
Then there's being able to troubleshoot computer system related issues indipendently...I'm not sure if that's indipendently of other systems and/or hardware or if that refers to a lack of someone looking over my shoulder while I'm doing it. No idea.
Familair with Windows including 7...? Uhh well there's installing and using it as a normal person then there's troubleshooting the innards and all the inimacies of WIMs and the entire setup process. There's lots of interpretations of that.
Willing to work in a very dynamic environment and aggressive program schedule...hmmm..actually strangely enough I find this to be the most clear bullet point so far: not so much a requirement as a kind of "convince me you'll be able to work in place where stuff is changing and has to be done quickly" sort of statement. Since I worked in a hospital I can probably give some convincing anecdotes about working quickly in a very time-critical sort of environment very effectively yadah-yadah-yadah. Which is true actually. I was quite effective as well.
Oh and the last one: team player. Well that kind of goes without saying. Perhaps I'll interact with another human more than once a month this time at Intel. So ya, a team player all-way-round. I hope the rest of the team is also a "team player".
Oh and apparently there's this "Bonus" section about being familiar with the company's hardware, manufacturing line tools execution (what?) and "ClearQuest" knowledge.
Of course that
familiar with hardware thing once again has several interpretations. Is that manufacturer-specific stuff or just general PC hardware knowledge? Who knows! Manufacturing line tools execution sounds like something out of a car manufacturing plant and well I just looked up ClearQuest (apparently it's big enough
there's a wiki page on it).
It looks like kind of a database, not necessarily SQL-like, specifically aimed at debugging and that sort of thing. I mean if it can tie into ODBC I'm assuming it is at at the very least a powerful piece of database software. And according the wiki on Windows there's both VBScript and Perl as scripting languages. I'm actually excited to learn VBScript on some levels. Perl I could get behind but I wouldn't be nearly as excited. Apparently on UNIX/Linux it is just Perl. So there you go. Maybe it would advantageous on some level to learn the Perl part. Okay see I think I'm getting my hopes up too much here. Why don't I just take a deep breath and try and make it through this theoretical phone interview.
On another subject today I did see a certain 3D movie that is sweeping the world...what could it be...I don't know...I'll have to save that discussion for a later date.
