So here it is again a month+ since last updating. Once I stopped doing this regularly I was just out of the habit wasn't I?
In the past several weeks I have been beyond bored. I mean one week my boss actually left for an entire week. Actually it wasn't that noticable since my boss never talked to me anyway. But to say I was bored that week would be putting it mildly. I was really close to just quiting that week. But I didn't. Instead I continued for another 3 weeks or so. I went another week and on a friday got a call from a recruiter.
I got this call while driving back to the office from the grocery store. That's right. All my education, experience, technical knowledge and the most strenuous activity I get from my employer is going to the store to buy snacks for the people who have work to do. But making more than apple. I'm sure there's an angle to look at this from that wouldn't play with my mind.
Anyway I got this call on a friday, the recruiter wanted to meet on that monday at 10am. So I tell my boss this and, as I said, he's really nice and always mentioned he wouldn't blame me for looking for a different job while I was with them so he said just go to the meeting and try to show up at noon, getting lunch on the way. I would have just made that friday the last day but my boss said "ooh we have work for you next week". Pfff. So I kept going.
For the next two weeks I did *nothing*. I mean literally. I sat in a cubicle and browsed the web. That's it. For eight hours a day. For two weeks. At this point I decided I was leaving. So I told my boss I had got the job from the people I met with. Even though I hadn't. I didn't think about it, I just wanted the freak out of there. No money usually has a way to motivate people to find a new job. I hope the next one will involve something other than sitting in a cubicle.
Of course I might clarify a little. I was supposed to be studying MS "T-SQL" this whole time. I'm fairly certain. But I couldn't have any less interest in that then I do now. But if I did something like read a book my boss would say "shouldn't you be studying?". So I stopped reading. I could also have been playing a MUD for those two weeks in theory. Or working on my as of yet untitled story. But web browsing I guess was slightly less noticable. I couldn't exactly install just anything on that work computer. This was supposed to be a secure environment after all. Would have been fun to study C++/C#/VB/whatever that whole time. No such luck.
On any other note I'm still playing WoW. All these many weeks and I'm still going. Although this many weeks and only a level 25 warrior doesn't sound terribly impressive. Took me a while to get the hang of it and I'm still learning. And I only play about 3 hours a night on week nights most nights, a lot more on weekends. That was while I was working.
I during this time I have also started any number of "alt" characters on different servers with different races/factions/classes/etc. I can now get to level 7 in under three hours. ¶ 10:47 AM
