"Tappi-OOOhhhh-kah!"
Jeeze it's been weeks since I posted to this blog. Not that much has happened though. Ok a few things.
The terrorist empowerment act for instance. The one my beloved legislature passed giving
illegal immigrants a legal driver's license. What part of
illegal don't you understand? It won't take effect until January 1st 2004 however. If this isn't thrown out on any number of grounds a driver's license will no longer be a valid form of identification. Certainly won't be able to tell if you're in the country legally based on having a driver's license. So any terrorist can just come into California and get a legitimate form of identification. Then go buy guns, rent prop planes, anything they want. Thus my name, the Terrorist Empowerment Act.
Of course all is not lost yet. Don't piss off a populace who is already pissed off enough to get into a recall election. Good chance this law will be over turned long before January 1st. Any Democrat who tells ya they're not light on national security or they're not terrorist sympathizers you now know they're lying. Candidates I mean. Of course they all lie anyway. How can you believe a word they say? If these Democrats were smart they'd be in a hurry to do the opposite of all that and try to save themselves from a pissed off populace. Logic never was their strong point though was it?
Also half my life, the game
Planescape: Torment. I finally finished it. I couldn't spend very much time at any one time on it so it took my about 5 or 6 weeks to finish. But last night I finally finished it. Quite an interesting game I think. Once you get used to the controls and how everything works the game becomes more a medium for the story. And this story really did have a message and a lot of depth to it. Philosophy about death, fear of death, what one will do to avoid death and the consequences for such a thing. And the final battle? Lets just say it's not what you would expect from a final battle. Like many games of this type, the AD&D rules and 3rd person whatnot, you can pick what kind of character you are. Whether evil, chaotic evil, lawful evil, lawful neutral, chaotic neutral, and the good variations, you get the idea i hope. But in this game it doesn't matter which you pick. You can finish it regardless. And in the end everyone dies, right? Especially for a video game I thought it was a very unique experience. Somehow I don't think it would be for everyone. For those people who wouldn't be into they wouldn't play it for too long anyway. For those who appreciate stories and long scrolls of text you'll like this. Also if you love long novels you'll feel at home with this game.
In a strange way no sequels or expansion packs for this game says something else in itself. Over all I really liked this game.
What else for the old blog? I don't know...
Well I did lose my job. On some level I thought I might. But I made some suggestions anyways. The company has virtually no structure you see. No managers, no supervisors, no one. Frustrated by the situation I finally posted some suggestions on how to fix it...for the entire company to read. Obviously bad idea for someone who wants to keep their job. They don't enforce any other rules I don't know why they'd care about this one. So I lost my job. What a horrible company. I only worked there for about 8 weeks and it was getting worse and worse almost by the day. And no one seemed to care. Well there was no on TO care. That was part of the problem. Some I'm both saddened and relieved to be rid of that company. I did make some good contacts at least. Funny thing is I was one of the few who
wasn't looking for another job even while I was working on the job. I know no fewer than three of my coworkers were actively seeking some place else to work. And we all hated the company so much. I'm sure my co-workers hate the company even more now.
So if two or three of those guys leave in a short period of time, without notice the way the company deserves, that place is really hosed. And the company deserves it! But even this has a silver lining.
I've made several good friends working at this company and managed to train myself relatively well in how to talk to customers and diagnose problems and "empathize with the customer". Had their been any management or supervisors or “organizational structure” what so ever I don’t think I would have lasted nearly as long as I did in those first few weeks. But the last few weeks I think I was doing pretty good.
One of the people I met there who was looking for another job actually got some offers from Hot Jobs and mentioned how I would be more qualified than he was despite his A+ certificate and my lack of one. Since he couldn’t work full time he got the phone numbers and handed them off to me. So there’s a good chance I can find a real job that actually pays some amount of money. Now why didn’t I do this around the time of the next paycheck and quit instead? Oh sure that would have been ideal. But I had to go and post it Monday night.
The title of my last entry, "Why Ryan...that's almost like humor," is for the umpteenth time from
Whose Line is it Anyway. One of those "sell the CDs at the break of a movie" type skits. Ryan makes some dumb pun that almost humorous and in that Collin makes that "back handed" complement about it almost being humor. It was a pretty good line. Or maybe you had to be there.
